Despite Comments, No Current Change to Recommendations on Alcohol Consumption

Some interpreted comments made by the director of the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, Dr. George Koob, to mean that U.S. alcohol guidelines had changed to follow Canada’s recommendation of only two alcohol drinks per week. However, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has since clarified that it has not yet begun developing recommendations for the next edition of the Dietary Guidelines.
