NBWA Statement on Main Street Tax Provisions

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) President and CEO Craig Purser released the following statement in support of making permanent the Main Street tax provisions from the 2017 tax bill:

“Local, family-owned businesses like beer and beverage distributors need tax certainty to continue to confidently invest in their operations and communities. NBWA and our members have been calling for Main Street provisions from the 2017 tax bill to be made permanent to provide that needed certainty.

NBWA is encouraged that the House Ways and Means Committee tax proposal seeks important priorities for family-owned businesses, including expanding and making the 199A pass-through deduction permanent, permanently raising the estate tax exemption allowance as well as allowing full and immediate expensing and expanding the business interest deduction.

While much work remains on this legislation, today’s markup is an important step, and we urge lawmakers to maintain these critical Main Street tax provisions. As always, NBWA is eager to continue to work with policymakers on pro-growth tax policies for beer and beverage distributors and other local, family businesses.”

The National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) represents America’s 3,000 independent beer distributors who service every state, congressional district and media market across the country. Licensed at the federal and state levels, beer distributors get bottles, cans, cases and kegs from a brewer or importer to stores, restaurants and other licensed retail accounts through a transparent and accountable regulatory system.

Distributors build brands of all sizes – from familiar domestic beers to new startup labels and imports from around the world – and generate enormous consumer choice while supporting more than 135,000 quality jobs in their home communities. Beer distributors work locally to keep communities safe by sponsoring programs to promote responsible consumption, combat drunk driving and reduce underage drinking.
