Kratom-based beverages marketed as alcohol alternatives are gaining popularity but the unregulated products may pose serious risks, including seizures, intense withdrawal symptoms and death. Both the FDA and DEA have issued warnings about its use and last year $2.5 million was awarded in the first kratom wrongful death trial in the U.S.
