New U.S. Alcohol Report Tainted by Bias, Conflicts

Yesterday, the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage Drinking (ICCPUD) released its report on alcohol and health. This report has been widely criticized by a broad spectrum of bipartisan congressional members in both the House and Senate and is the subject of a subpoena by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

Separately, a Congressionally-mandated report from the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine recently addressed eight key health questions around alcohol consumption. Notably, the report states that while heavy drinking comes with health risks, moderate consumption of alcohol is associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease than no drinking at all.

A broad coalition of hospitality industry groups, of which NBWA is a member, released a statement expressing concerns about the ICCPUD report.
