As part of a company wellness initiative this spring, Monarch Beverage Company of Indianapolis, Indiana, is encouraging employees to dust off their bikes and gear up for a busy season of bicycling. The initiative, comprised of three biking programs, is expected to put more than 60 employees on the newly updated biking lanes, paths and trails in Marion and surrounding counties.

“Our company biking initiative is a great way for employees at Monarch to not only ease back into fitness, but is also experience the biking resources provided to them by the city,” said Natalie Roberts, Senior Vice President at Monarch Beverage. “With the recent expansion of biking lanes and trails, participants have a variety of bike-safe routes to ride on.”
The initiative includes several programs, including the Monarch 180-Mile Challenge, BGI’s Get Back on Your Bike, and the INDYCOG’s Bike to Work Day.  Monarch has teamed with community partners and developed their own programs to aid employees in activating their lives.

“We are very excited to begin our biking programs. This will be the first ‘Monarch 180-Mile Challenge’ competition. Throughout the program, employees will be challenged to get out and bike at least 30-miles per week for six weeks. That is approximately 9,000 miles!” said Amanda Uhles, PR Specialist at Monarch Beverage.

Employees who reach their weekly goal are eligible for prizes such as cash, bike locks, t-shirts and bike trainers.  In just over two weeks, Monarch employees are on pace to exceed their overall goal, with 6,000 miles already logged.
